New Canaan lowers parking fees for town lots, focused on improving communication with commuters

NEW CANAAN — A new parking fee schedule for the 2022-23 season will go effect starting this September with lower rates as the town works on improving communication with commuters, according to town staffer Bob Mantilia.

Commuters may now apply for parking permits for the three commuter lots including, the Lumberyard/Railroad lot near the New Canaan Train Station, the lot on the corner of Richmond Hill and Park streets and the lot at the Talmadge Hill Train Station. Talmadge Hill is the only lot where there is no waiting list.

The Talmadge Hill parking lot is able to accommodate both residents and out of town commuters. The Lumberyard/Railroad Station and Richmond Hill lots are available to New Canaan residents only. The new annual fee for the Lumberyard lot is $624, Richmond Hill is $474, and Talmadge Hill is $474, all subject to sales tax.

Richmond Hill and Talmadge Hill were lowered from $504 while the Lumberyard lot was lowered from $663.

Mantilia, who spoke to the Parking Commission last week, said the town is also offering daily parking opportunities with different ways to pay.
