In the past few years, no one can deny that Maserati hasn’t been the most zealous in innovating their cars, and their models have definitely been lacking a certain X-factor that is expected of Italian supercars, and especially cars that come with a price tag such as a Maserati.



Lately, however, things have been looking up for the brand, with Maserati having released the gorgeous MC20 supercar, taking the fight to the Lamborghini Huracán and the Ferrari F8. Now, looking ahead to the future, Maserati has been developing their first all-electric SUV, the Grecale Folgore, which is set to come off the assembly line two years later. With the internal combustion engine soon to be a thing of the past, every big carmaker has been rushing to create all-electric cars and SUVs, and while Maserati isn’t the first to hop aboard the EV train, they sure have taken their time to study the market and technological trends while developing the Folgore.

Maserati’s first crossover SUV (which would run on gas), the Grecale, will hit American shores in 2023, and the Grecale Folgore is still quite a bit into the future, expected to be launched in 2024. While the Grecale Folgore is in its current form remains a concept, the unveiling of the GranTurismo Folgore EV does give us a fair bit of idea as to what the Grecale Folgore EV would look like. 8 Extreme Horsepower And Torque Figures

While finer details about the Maserati Grecale Folgore are expected to remain under wraps for quite a while, Maserati confirmed that the EV will be powered by a 105 kWh battery pack. Maserati even announced that the Grecale Folgore would make over 1200 horsepower. Furthermore, it is expected to come with 590 lb-ft of torque.

In terms of acceleration, we can expect a 0-60 mph time of under 2 seconds. With its 400V electrical architecture, the Maserati Grecale Folgore is surely going to be one of the best, even if its German rivals like Audi and Porsche might trump it in terms of charging speeds.

7 Expected Range Of Over 300 Miles

The Maserati Grecale Folgore will come with a 400V electrical architecture, and the battery pack it comes with will have 105 kWh of power. This very easily projects the Folgore to have an electrical range of at least 300 miles, which is, for all intents and purposes, the class minimum at this point.

We wouldn’t be surprised if Maserati goes one step further and surpasses that estimate as well. After all, it is clear that the Italian brand is eager to cement itself into the future with its newfound focus on electrical vehicles.

6 A Two-Motor Setup Will Be Standard

Maserati has revealed on the official page for the Grecale Folgore that there will be a minimum of two electric motors on the brand’s first all-electric SUV. This means that all-wheel drive will most likely be standard on the car, as a two-motor layout translates to power being delivered to both the front and the rear axles.

Of course, as the trend suggests when it comes to electric performance SUVs, there could always be the possibility of a quad-motor Grecale Folgore which could take the performance of the electric SUV further up a notch. That would mostly depend on how the first model is received, so we wouldn’t bet on it just yet.

5 Design Tweaks To Set It Apart From Its Gas-Powered Cousin

All set to be the crown jewel in Maserati’s mid-size SUV segment, the Maserati Grecale will hit the market in 2023. The Grecale Folgore, its all-electric iteration which will launch in 2024, will have much of the same exterior design, of course, but it will definitely have some distinctive aspects to set it apart from its ICE-powered counterpart.

First off, it will have an exclusive shade, dubbed the Rame Folgore. The trimming on the car will be black, contrasting with the Rame Folgore shade. Even the front fascia will be different, since the grille would be pretty much superficial, with curved vertical slates housing the Trident. A ‘Folgore’ logo in an Italian, furious font will also grace the body of the car, marking the lightning-named car.


4 Expected To Lock Heads With Rivals

Maserati’s electric SUV will lock heads with its German rivals like the BMW iX3 and Porsche’s new electric SUV, the Macan EV. While the iX3 comes with a 210 kW battery pack, it won’t boast as much torque as the Grecale Folgore, paling in comparison with its 295 lb-ft of torque.

The all-new Porsche Macan EV, on the other hand, is expected to have an electric range of 313 miles and would exceed the existing Porsche Taycan in range as well. Porsche will no doubt employ the Taycan’s 800-volt architecture for the Macan as well, which trumps that of the Maserati Grecale Folgore. How these cars perform in the market will be seen after the Macan and Grecale Folgore finally begin hitting dealerships.

3 Maserati Is Aiming For Class-Leading Autonomy

Staying true to its Italian DNA, the Maserati Grecale Folgore will be aiming to deliver top-notch performance in both urban and mixed routes. The car-maker has claimed that the electric SUV will deliver segment-leading highway autonomy as well.

Sure, advanced driver assistance systems are all the rage and almost common across all cars, but complete autonomy is still in the future, with compatible roads still being built and developed. On top of that, for Maserati to aim at a segment-best autonomy is definitely ambitious, and we can’t wait to see how it turns out.


2 The Grecale Folgore Will Herald Sustainability Even Through Its Cabin

While Maserati hasn’t shed much light on the interior of the Grecale Folgore, there’s every reason to assume that the gas-powered Grecale and the Folgore will share much of their interior. Of course, it will get distinct software tweaks, like a fully-digital instrument cluster and infotainment unit as well.

Maserati has stated that the electric Grecale will keep up with its EV motives and herald sustainability even on the interior, by using Econyl, which is a recycled blend of nylon made from fishing nets. That’s a great move from the Italian brand, and definitely nets them some points on the green scale.

1 Launch Date

The Maserati Grecale Folgore is not going to get here just yet. The Italian car manufacturer has just now revealed the GranTurismo Grecale, the electric variant of their flagship car. However, after the GranTurismo Folgore, the Maserati Grecale will take center stage, becoming the brand’s flagship midsize SUV.

While the gas-powered Grecale will only reach the markets only by 2023, the subsequent year will be the one to herald the Grecale Folgore, which will be the brand’s first all-electric SUV. That gives the Grecale Folgore about two years to develop, and Maserati a lot of time to refine the car and study the competition.
