Used Ford F-150 Lightning Electric Pickup Truck Prices Are Simply Ridiculous

In 1993, Ford discovered an opening in the market. That void in the market saw Ford attempt to design and create a pickup truck that also doubled as a sports car in disguise. It was a great move by Ford as they saw their market double on just one vehicle. The pickup truck appealed to pickup truck enthusiasts but also to sports car drivers.

At the time of the original Ford F-150 Lightning release, it saw many technologies and components that had never been seen in a pickup truck before. To be precise, the Ford F-150 Lightning saw 23 pilot products, including the first dual exhaust on an F-Series, the first bucket seats in an F-Series, and the first 17-inch wheels on an F-series. Not to mention the rest of the innovative equipment. Fast-forward to the present day, Ford revived the F-150 Lightning, but this time as an electric pickup, rather than a performance truck. Now, if you were to think you’d be able to get your hands on a second-hand Ford F-150 Lightning for a reasonable price in the second hand market, you’d be wrong.

Quick Look At The 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning

Jumping forward almost 30 years, the almighty 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning made its first appearance. And it was a truly incredible pickup truck. It certainly followed in the footsteps of its successful predecessors over a two-generation period under the F-150 label. It also didn’t let anybody down with the overall aim of the F-150 range, which was and still is, to create a fully capable pickup truck with sporting capabilities and improved performance. The 2022 F-150 Lightning was breathtaking, so let’s take a look at why that is.

The extremely powerful V8 engine was scrapped for the 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning, to be replaced by an all-electric setup with a reasonable range. The exterior design of the 2022 F-150 Lightning has predominantly stayed the same, with it maintaining much of its iconic styling.

The New F-150 Lightning Caused A Disturbance In The Force

The most notable change to the 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning is, of course, its powertrain. With no more monstrous power from the V8 engine, the electrical set-up had to be highly impressive, and that it was! The 2022 F-150 had two floor-mounted battery packs, with the standard-range battery reaching 230 miles per charge and the extended range battery reaching an impressive 300 miles per charge. Whichever battery is in use, the power is sent to the front and rear electric motors. With the battery packs and electric motors working together, the 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning is able to produce 426 hp. While the extended range battery is able to produce 563 hp, incredible for an all-electric pickup truck. Both battery pack versions make an incredible 775 lb-ft of torque, meaning that the 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning has more power and more torque than any other F-150 ever built. With the option of the extended battery, the 2022 F-150 Lightning is able to reach 0-60 mph in only 4.5 second, which is insane for a pickup truck! How do we know that the electrical set-up is brilliant? Well, put it this way: in the case of a blackout, the 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning can power your house for up to 3 days! Absolutely unbelievable!

Will I Have To Pay More For A 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning Now Than When It Comes Out?

At the time of the 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning’s release, for the base version, you’d be paying a sum in the region of $39,947, and you’d expect to pay less for a second-hand one, but that is really not the case! To get your hands on one today, you’ll be paying way more than double its MSRP. The COVID-19 pandemic left second-hand cars difficult to find; not only that, but the price of second-hand cars have skyrocketed. That is certainly the case for a 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning that is up for sale in a Florida dealership for an eye-watering $193,988! The price tag of the 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning has been justified by the dealership as a pickup truck in very high demand that is difficult to get your hands on. While that may be true, it doesn’t really justify a price tag close to $200,000, does it?

While it’s understandable that the 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning is a very impressive and stunning pickup truck, its exterior design is super attractive yet aggressive, while its interior follows suit and offers an incredible finish with incredibly technologies and gadgets, not to mention its comfortable drive. But the most impressive aspect of the 2022 F-150 Lightning is its sporting capabilities and fantastic powertrain. It’s not your typical and average electrical powertrain; It’s highly advanced and will take a lot of beating. Its insane second-hand price tag of $193,988 seems ludicrous, even for such an impressive car like the 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning. Pay an excessive amount of money for a second-hand F-150 Lightning or wait till the new Lightning is released and most probably pay less? It’s your choice.
